Abuja innovative hub ready to collaborate with government to create a million jobs
An Abuja innovative hub (ECube), has expressed it willingness to work with Nigerian government to create over a million jobs in the area of agriculture in the next five years.
The Country Manager and Managing-Director of ECube, Ilan Lugassy, said his eco-friendly organisation, has plans to support 1,000 communities across the country, as part its contributions to ensuring the success of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to address extreme poverty in the country.
Lugassy gave the promise during a webinar on the occasion of the African Youth Leaders Dialogue on Climate Change, which was organised by the ECube, a non-governmental organisation, in collaboration with the CMPI and the United Nations, in Abuja.
He noted that the innovative hub is currently running a pilot project in Abuja where it is using solar energy to power all its activities with the intention of making the project national to address Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Lugassy said: “My idea is to help Mr. President to support 1000 communities in five years. It’s large scale and by this we are creating jobs for millions of people, directly or indirectly. We are improving the livelihood, the economy and the people.”
He added: “I think this project should be a national project and since it is a national project, we want to offer a large scale project to support 1,000 communities in five years and by this we are going to create millions of jobs for people, directly or indirectly and by this, we are going to help small farmers, small commercial people, vulnerable communities to improve their livelihood, to improve their education, health, to give them water purification, clean water- portable water and so on.
“So we are helping at the micro level. The vulnerable people and at the macro level, the national level, we are helping to drive communities dramatically.”
Lugassy said that his organisation has designed measures aimed at encouraging public private partnership to tackle climate change.
He revealed that the dialogue was put together to promote best practices in providing support for rural-urban areas with no access to electricity to mitigate climate.
He said: “We have been working closely with relevant agencies to promote awareness.
“Many government institutions have been here like the Federal Ministry of Power, Rural Electrification Agency, Ministry of Agriculture and other community-based organisations, and every stakeholder has been enthusiastic about the ECube idea.
“The solution to climate change is not just about electrification, our ECube system has been built to provide electricity and connectivity to provide basic amenities for communities.
“By this we are capable of providing services to various communities, which is a game changer in the fight against climate change.”
