The management of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, has applauded Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for his decision to increase the retirement age of academic staff from 60 to 65 years.

The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Mohammed Abdullahi, expressed profound appreciation, describing the governor’s move as a progressive step that aligns with national educational policies and enhances human capital development.

Sani’s recent Executive Order, issued last Thursday, formalised the increase in retirement age for academic staff across select state-owned tertiary institutions, contingent on meeting the required criteria.

The decision followed productive discussions between the governor and academic unions representing the affected institutions.

“We are grateful to Governor Uba Sani for increasing the retirement age of our academic staff,” Abdullahi remarked in a press statement released by the institution’s Secretary of Information and Protocol, Abdullahi Ibrahim Shehu, on Sunday.

He added, “This decision is a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of our staff and the advancement of education in the state.

“We commend this bold step, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the quality of education at our institution.”

Abdullahi further lauded the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Muhammad Bello, and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Nubapoly Chapter, for their unwavering support of the Governor’s policies.

“We deeply appreciate the role played by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Muhammad Sani Bello, and ASUP’s leadership in facilitating this significant decision,” Abdullahi stated.

“Their dedication has been instrumental in prioritising staff welfare, and we are sincerely thankful for their contributions.”

The polytechnic pledged continued support for Governor Sani’s administration, reaffirming their commitment to promoting excellence in education.

“The Rector extends commendations to the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Muhammad Sani Bello, our management team, and the leadership of ASUP, Nubapoly Chapter.

“Together, we will ensure our institution remains a beacon of excellence, delivering top-tier education to our students,” the statement concluded.

The policy shift is anticipated to bolster staff welfare and elevate educational standards across Kaduna State.
