Drivers licences: Lagos, FCT on high side of yet to collect – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps has reported that 256,567 processed driver’s licences remain unclaimed across Nigeria as of 2025.

Data obtained by our correspondent from the corps showed that Lagos State accounted for 77,697 unclaimed licences, followed by the Federal Capital Territory with 33,825 and Enugu State with 24,041.

    According to the data, Abia has 4,475; Adamawa, 725; Akwa Ibom, 7,834; Anambra, 4,370; Bauchi, 806; Bayelsa, 1,181; Benue, 1,614; Borno, 1,162; Cross River, 1,349; Delta, 8,422; Ebonyi, 475; Edo, 15,916; Ekiti, 669; Gombe, 645; Imo, 12,580; Jigawa, 325, and Kaduna, 9,395.

    Also, Kano State has 519; Katsina, 1,070; Kebbi, 110; Kogi, 3,487; Kwara, 2,663; Nasarawa, 1,290; Niger, 5,025; Ogun, 8,107; Ondo, 5,015; Osun, 4,746; Oyo, 8,849; Plateau, 2,945; Rivers, 2,204; Sokoto, 582; Taraba, 1,206; Yobe, 558; and Zamfara, 685.

The corps expressed concern about the growing number of uncollected licences, calling it an administrative burden.

The FRSC spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, who spoke to Saturday PUNCH explained that the unclaimed licences had been fully processed and were ready for collection.

He described the situation as troubling and urged all motorists who have completed the necessary biometric and documentation procedures to visit their respective collection centers without further delay.

The spokesperson stated that the corps would continue to notify applicants through various communication channels, including SMS, urging them to check their local FRSC centres for their licences.

He added there would be an increased enforcement against driving without a valid licence in the country.

Ogungbemide said, “The corps will continue to inform defaulters through all media to go and check their licences at their various centres. This is in addition to the several texts that has been sent to them through SMS.

“There will also be an increase in enforcement on no driving without drivers license.”

The spokesperson warned that failure to collect processed licences often results in motorists driving with expired temporary permits, which constitutes a traffic offence.

He added that the corps was committed to clearing the backlog and ensuring a more efficient driver’s licence process.
