South African singer Tyla, who secured the Grammy for Best African Music Performance for her single “Push 2 Start” during the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, shared insights into her personal preferences and professional trajectory during a red-carpet interview at the Crypto.com Arena. Speaking exclusively to E! News on February 1, the 24-year-old artist detailed the qualities she values in a partner, expressing a preference for a balanced temperament. “I like to get treated like a princess,” the singer stated, adding, “I love a gentleman. But I love a guy that can play both—a gentleman but also little rough on the edges. A nice mix.”

Beyond her interpersonal preferences, Tyla emphasized a desire for a partner with a compatible lifestyle, noting that she identifies more as a homebody than a fixture of the nightlife scene. In a discussion regarding her social habits, she previously indicated a preference for those who enjoy domestic activities over “a club every weekend.” Elaborating on the type of companionship she seeks, she remarked, “I rather that than a club every weekend. At least I know we’re chilling; we’re home. I also love being at home and chilling. I’m not a gamer, but I like playing games.” She further clarified that she appreciates a “natural” sense of humor that does not feel forced or performative.

Despite the focus on her personal life, the singer maintained that her primary focus remains her burgeoning music career. Reflecting on her rapid rise to fame since the 2024 success of her hit “Water,” Tyla described her current status as “literally a dream” and noted that she is now “embracing” the spotlight more fully than in previous years. Following her win ahead of the main telecast hosted by Trevor Noah, the performer signaled her intention to continue her trajectory toward “global domination,” asserting that she is now “feeling way more on my feet” as she navigates her role as a prominent figure in the international pop landscape.
