    Manny Ita –

At least 35 people have been confirmed dead following a brutal attack by suspected terrorist groups in the Kaiama region of Kwara State. The incident, described by local authorities as one of the deadliest in recent months, involved coordinated raids on multiple communities, leaving homes destroyed and residents traumatized.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers moved in during the night, targeting villagers and setting some houses ablaze. Security agencies have reportedly deployed additional forces to the area to contain the situation, though access to the affected communities remains challenging due to damaged roads and ongoing threats.
The attack coincided with fresh bandit raids in several communities in Katsina State, further heightening concerns about insecurity in the northwestern region. Residents in the affected areas described panic and mass displacement, with many fleeing to nearby towns for safety.
In response, the Nigerian Senate issued a statement urging citizens to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities, specifically warning against “internal collaborators” who may provide support to criminal elements. The Senate also called on security agencies to intensify patrols and ensure swift action against perpetrators.
Local and federal authorities have yet to release a full casualty list, and investigations into the attacks are ongoing. Community leaders have appealed for immediate humanitarian assistance, including food, medical aid, and shelter, for the survivors of the raids.
The incidents underscore the continuing security challenges in Nigeria’s northwest, where banditry and terrorist activities have persisted despite repeated military and police interventions.
