Samsung Electronics has officially launched its latest flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra, following a two-week pre-order period, introducing a new hardware feature designed to enhance user privacy.
The device debuts what the company describes as the world’s first “Privacy Display,” a technology that operates at the pixel level and allows users to black out the entire screen, specific applications or notifications from the view of people nearby.
The feature is being presented as a significant hardware innovation at a time when most smartphone releases tend to focus on incremental updates rather than entirely new capabilities.
The launch also intensifies competition between Samsung and Apple in the premium smartphone segment, with observers noting that the South Korean manufacturer has continued to introduce hardware features not yet available on rival devices such as the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
According to early sales listings, the Galaxy S26 Ultra has already been ranked as the number-one best-selling smartphone on Amazon shortly after its release.
The smartphone is priced at $1,299.99, roughly $100 higher than Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max, and features a 6.9-inch AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a resolution of 3120 by 1440 pixels.
The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor developed by Qualcomm and is expected to achieve leading benchmark scores on the Geekbench 6 mobile processor leaderboard.
Storage options for the device include 256GB, 512GB and 1TB configurations, while the smartphone is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery that the company says can provide up to 31 hours of video playback.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra also features an IP68 durability rating and uses Corning Gorilla Armor 2 and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection developed by Corning.
    Its camera system includes a 200-megapixel main wide lens, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom, a 10-megapixel lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 12-megapixel front-facing camera.
Reviewers from Mashable described the smartphone as a premium device that may exceed the needs of many consumers despite its advanced features.
“Frankly, it may be too much phone, both literally and figuratively, for most people,” the publication said, adding, “But if you want the best possible Android phone, this is it.”
The device is available through major retailers and mobile carriers. Telecommunications providers including AT&T and T-Mobile are offering promotional deals that allow customers to obtain the phone without upfront payment when trading in eligible devices and subscribing to qualifying plans.
Customers purchasing the device directly from Samsung are also being offered a $150 credit that can be used toward other products such as the Galaxy Buds4 Pro or the Galaxy Watch Ultra, while Amazon is offering a $200 gift card with purchase.
