Sanwo-Olu strengthens the capacity and efficiency of the public service, stating that a motivated workforce remains important.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Tuesday presented 100 official vehicles to directors in the state civil service, urging beneficiaries to justify the gesture with improved service delivery.

The vehicles were distributed to Level 17 officers across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) during a ceremony held at the State House in Alausa.

The initiative marks the third phase of such support extended to directors under the current administration.

Sanwo-Olu said the intervention was part of broader efforts to strengthen the capacity and efficiency of the public service, noting that a motivated workforce remains critical to achieving government’s development objectives.

According to him, the provision of official vehicles is aimed at rewarding commitment while reinforcing discipline, diligence and accountability among top civil servants.

“This gesture is not only to appreciate your contributions but to renew your sense of responsibility and commitment to public service. It is also meant to inspire officers in lower cadres to strive for excellence,” the governor said.

He added that his administration is committed to creating a conducive work environment and ensuring that civil servants attain the peak of their careers while remaining competitive nationally.

Beyond the vehicles, Sanwo-Olu highlighted ongoing welfare initiatives, including a housing loan scheme designed to improve workers’ living conditions and shield them from socio-economic pressures that could affect productivity.

He also disclosed that the remodelling of the staff canteen at the Alausa Secretariat into a four-storey facility is nearing completion, part of efforts to upgrade workplace infrastructure.

While acknowledging that welfare packages may not fully match the dedication of civil servants, the governor stressed that the government values their contributions and expects higher performance in return.

“To whom much is given, much is expected. The public is watching, and we must consistently deliver quality service,” he said.

In his remarks, the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, commended the governor for prioritising workers’ welfare, describing the initiative as a reflection of sustained commitment to the civil service.

Agoro also noted that the administration has ensured prompt payment of pensions to retired workers, reinforcing confidence in the system.

He assured that civil servants would remain loyal and committed to delivering efficient service, maintaining Lagos State’s position as a leading public service in the country.
