    Alex Ekubo

    Nollywood has been thrown into mourning with the report of the death of popular actor Alex Ekubo, with colleagues expressing shock and deep sorrow over the tragic loss.

    The news of his passing was confirmed on Tuesday by fellow actors, sparking an outpouring of tributes across social media.

    Sharing on her Instagram story, famous Actress Funke Akindele wrote, “Hmmmmmm. Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time but guess you knew best. May your kind soul, rest in peace, Alex. ‘Ore mi like you fondly called, me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. Rest in Peace, Alex.”

    1. Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke was born on April 10, 1986.

    2. He hailed from Arochukwu in Abia State, South-East Nigeria.

    3. He studied Law at the University of Calabar.

    4. He attended Federal Government College, Daura, in Katsina State.

    5. He gained early attention after emerging first runner-up at the 2010 Mr Nigeria contest.

    6. His film career began with a minor role in Sinners in the House (2003).

    7. He rose to prominence after starring in the Nollywood hit Weekend Getaway.

    8. Ekubo was known for excelling in both romantic comedies and drama films.

    9. He featured in over 100 films, including Omo Ghetto: The Saga, The Bling Lagosians, and A Sunday Affair.

    10. In 2020, he was named among the “Most Influential People of African Descent Under 40” by the United Nations.

    11. He received an honorary degree in Arts & Culture from ISCG University, Benin Republic, in 2021.

    12. Beyond acting, he was deeply involved in charity and youth empowerment initiatives.

    13. He received multiple recognitions, including Global Social Giving Actor of the Year in 2021.

    14. Alexx Ekubo passed away on May 12, 2026, at the age of 40 after battling kidney cancer.
