Queen Blessing Ebigieson, in Historic Election, Shines Again as AMP President

    Queen Blessing Ebigieson

The hall, Ojez Hotel, was filled with familiar faces, industry veterans, and enthusiastic members who came out in full force to cast their votes.

The national body of the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) witnessed a landmark election today, September 28, 2024, at the Ojez Hotel event hall in Ebute Metta, Lagos. Under the careful supervision of the Association of Movie Producers Electoral Committee (AMPEC), the elections were carried out smoothly, adhering to all rules and guidelines. The atmosphere in the event hall was electric, as producers from across the country gathered to participate in the democratic process, culminating in the election of a new national executive body.

The AMP election is always a significant event for Nollywood, a cornerstone of Nigeria’s creative industry, and today’s contest was no different. The hall was filled with familiar faces, industry veterans, and enthusiastic members who came out in full force to cast their votes. One could feel the weight of anticipation in the air as votes were counted, and members waited to see who would emerge victorious in this competitive race for leadership.

    The Contestants

Among the key contestants for the various positions were some of Nollywood’s most celebrated names. For the presidency, Ambassador Dr. Queen Blessing Ebigieson was up against notable peers. Shan George, an industry stalwart, vied for the position of Vice President, while Favour Benson, Tony Chukuma, Glory Chisom Okafor, and Asuelime Ojeriakhi Eniola also competed for other critical roles such as Publicity Secretary, General Secretary, Welfare Officer, and Financial Secretary.

As the voting process unfolded, it became evident that the competition was fierce yet friendly. All contestants were prepared to accept the results with grace, in the spirit of unity that has defined AMP over the years. The entire election was closely monitored by AMPEC Chairman, Norbert Ajaegbu, whose leadership ensured transparency and adherence to the highest standards of electoral conduct.

    The Victorious

After what could only be described as a tight race, the results were finally announced to a room filled with eager faces. Queen Blessing Ebigieson emerged as the National President of AMP, marking a new chapter in the association’s history. Her running mate, Shan George, clinched the position of Vice President, while Favour Benson was declared the National Publicity Secretary. Tony Chukuma emerged as the National General Secretary, with Glory Chisom Okafor taking on the role of National Welfare Officer. Lastly, Asuelime Ojeriakhi Eniola was elected National Financial Secretary.

The announcement of the winners was met with applause, cheers, and a sense of accomplishment. For many, this was a validation of their hard work and dedication to the industry. As the crowd congratulated the new leaders, it became clear that this election had truly united the body, despite the competitive nature of the campaign.

    A Historic Inaugural Speech

Queen Blessing Ebigieson, in her inaugural address, struck a tone of humility and determination. “I’m humbled and honored by this mandate given to me today to lead this great association (AMP) for the next four years. Your votes have spoken, and the message of unity, inclusivity, and progress has resonated,” she began. Her words carried the weight of responsibility, as she acknowledged the legacy left by past leaders while setting a clear path forward.

“We stand on the shoulders of giants,” she continued, referencing AMP’s founding fathers and past presidents who have worked tirelessly to establish and grow the association. Queen Blessing promised to further the legacy of these pioneers by promoting unity, enhancing the global competitiveness of Nollywood, and creating opportunities for all members of the association.

In her speech, she laid out a roadmap for the next four years, emphasizing key areas such as strengthening the association’s structures, fostering partnerships, and empowering AMP members. “We’ll showcase our movies globally, celebrate our heritage, and create opportunities. I ask you to join me on this journey and be my partner in progress. Together, we can do this,” she declared, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

Her words echoed across the hall, leaving a lasting impression on all those present. The call for unity and collaboration was clear, and there was a palpable sense of optimism for the future of AMP and Nollywood.

    Industry Giants in Attendance

The election was graced by some of the biggest names in Nollywood, adding further significance to the occasion. Among the notable attendees were revered industry figures such as Olorogun Zeb Ejiro, a legendary filmmaker, who played an important role as the BOT Chairman of AMP. Former presidents Ralph Nwadike and Paul Obazele were also present, lending their support to the democratic process.

Emeka Ossai, Elder Sam Azubuike, Fidelis Dukker, Lillian Amah-Aluko, and Franca Brown were also among the distinguished guests. Representatives from the Censors Board were in attendance as well, reflecting the importance of the occasion not just for the AMP but for Nollywood as a whole. Their presence underscored the respect and admiration that the industry holds for AMP and its role in shaping the future of Nigerian cinema.

    A Celebration of Unity

The election process, which could easily have been marred by tension, was instead a celebration of unity, professionalism, and the strength of the association. Families and friends of the contestants were present to cheer them on, adding a festive atmosphere to the proceedings. Despite the competition, the mood remained jubilant throughout, with many of the attendees expressing their excitement for the future under the leadership of Queen Blessing Ebigieson.

As the day came to an end, it was clear that the Association of Movie Producers had not only chosen a new leader but had also reaffirmed its commitment to the growth of Nollywood. The peaceful election and smooth transition of power served as a shining example of the maturity of the association and its dedication to progress.

Queen Blessing concluded her speech with a resounding blessing for AMP, Nollywood, and Nigeria as a whole: “May God bless the Association of Movie Producers, may God bless Nollywood, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Now, we are bound to experience remarkable turnaround in entertainment and creative industry in Nigeria.
