President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday, April 4, 2026, inaugurated a series of landmark projects in Iperu-Remo, Ogun State, headlined by the commissioning of the Gateway Cargo International Airport and the launch of Gateway Airline.
The visit marked a significant milestone in Ogun State’s infrastructure drive, with the President emphasizing the importance of strategic investments in transportation, security, and economic development.
At the centre of the event was the Gateway Cargo International Airport, a major agro-cargo and passenger hub designed to boost trade, logistics, and regional connectivity in southwestern Nigeria. The facility features a nearly 4-kilometre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft, positioning it as an alternative to Lagos’ busy aviation corridor.
In addition, Tinubu officially unveiled Gateway Airline, which commenced operations with newly acquired aircraft, signaling Ogun State’s entry into the aviation business and its ambition to become a logistics and transportation hub.
Beyond aviation, the President commissioned several complementary projects aimed at strengthening mobility, security, and economic productivity across the state. These include:
Distribution of 1,000 electric motorcycles to support green transportation initiatives
Deployment of 80 security vehicles to enhance safety infrastructure
Commissioning of agricultural equipment, including tractors, to boost food production
Inspection of key facilities such as a Nigeria Customs Service village and forward operating base
Major road projects were also delivered, including the reconstruction of strategic routes linking Iperu to surrounding economic corridors. One of the roads was renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway, underscoring federal-state collaboration on infrastructure.
Speaking at the event, Tinubu acknowledged that while ongoing economic reforms may present short-term challenges, they are necessary for long-term growth and national stability. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a resilient economy through investments in infrastructure, energy, and security.
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun described the projects as part of a broader vision to transform the state into a major investment destination, noting significant growth in internally generated revenue and infrastructure development over the past seven years.
The commissioning ceremony drew top political and business figures, highlighting the strategic importance of the projects not only to Ogun State but to Nigeria’s wider economic ambitions.
