A New Dawn: Nigeria’s Akhator Joel Odigie is new ITUC-Africa General Secretary

…there’s much work to be done – Odigie declares

The 5th Ordinary Congress of the African Regional Organization of International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC-Africa) has ended with Nigeria’s comrade Akhator Joel Odigie emerging as general secretary of the body.

Comrade Joel Odigie was elected unopposed being the only candidate for the position that has a complete nomination.

“Akhator Joel Odigie’s election as the new General Secretary of ITUC-Africa is marking a new chapter in the organization’s journey towards empowering African workers and advancing labour rights,” the body said in a statement on its official twitter page.

In his acceptance speech, the new general secretary said there is much work to do for African trade unions, vowing to lead a new drive for increase membership as well as capacity building for members to engage.

Recall that Nigeria Pilot had last Saturday exclusively reported that Comrade Joel favoured to emerge as general secretary.

    Details soon….
