Nigerian celebrities in the entertainment and media world have come to the defence of media personality Morayo Afolabi Brown following attacks made on her over the phone.
In a video she shared on her Instagram page, Morayo opened up about a phone call she received from an individual who rained curses on her over questions she asked guests on her shows.
According to her, she said she has been receiving attacks over her interviews with guests on her show. She said, firstly, she was dragged for asking Fashola about religion, then Ireti Doyle about her marriage, and now this.
She admitted that the call disturbed her as she didn’t think anyone could attack her for doing her job. The former TVC host said such behaviour was unfamiliar to her as she didn’t grow up in an environment where raining curses was normalised.
Defending herself, Brown maintained that asking questions was her job and noted her decades-long experience in the media, insisting she had earned the right to ask difficult questions.
She added that she always respects her guests’ boundaries, revealing that she sometimes gives them their questions beforehand, while others highlight topics they don’t want to discuss.
“First, it was why I asked Mr Fashola about religion. Then, it was why I asked Aunty Ireti Doyle about her marriage. Then they questioned why I asked my guest about his experience at a widely publicised funeral. Now this? News Flash: I’m no novice. I have earned the place to ask questions as I deem fit. As long as my guests don’t feel humiliated, disappointed or dishonoured.
I’ve done my job and adhered to the vision on my show”.
Defending her, Toyin Abraham, whom she recently interviewed, said in her comment that she had so much positivity on her show and appreciated Morayo for having her.
“I had so much positivity on the show. Thanks for having me. It’s fine, sis. Kindly ignore her, pls.
Deyemi Okanlawon appreciated her for the graceful way she handled her interview with him.
“I am so sorry about this lunacy. I totally appreciated how you saw immediately that I wasn’t emotionally ready to give an answer and gracefully let it be. Mr wey you ask question no vex, na dem hypocrites….
Shola Kosoko wrote, “The curses turn to prayers for you because you haven’t done anything wrong. Reasoning is alien, and emotions are African.
Her former co-host on TVC, Tope Mark Odigie, wrote, “It’s not easy to completely ignore the negative people. May God continue to strengthen you for His assignment. Those for you are more than those against you. You’re loved; keep growing”.
Her comments come amid her recent interview with a popular clergyman, where she inquired about his sexual life.
Some months back, she faced backlash over her interview with actress Ireti Doyle, which probed her about her divorce, and Ireti responded, saying it was none of her business.
Defending herself, Morayo said Nigerians are always battle-ready. She revealed that Ireti got her questions a day before her interview, and she wasn’t trying to fast one on her. Morayo said her show brings out the best in people, not otherwise, and it’s all joy for her.
Dancer Kaffy sang her praises, noting how Morayo has remained a strong and steady voice in media and journalism. She praised her for holding her ground with grace and intelligence, creating space for meaningful conversations and perspectives that continue to shape public discourse.
Afolabi Brown had resigned from TVC after 10 years as host of Your View, which was driven by her desire to pursue a long-held passion project that she had nurtured over time.
