    •  As this will not only protect the integrity of the agents before the flying public but will also curb quackery.

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has said it has accepted the call by the National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies to regulate its members’ activities.

The aviation regulatory authority, however, promised to commence engagements to bring the group under the authority’s regulatory oversight.

NCAA made this known through a post by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Micheal Achimugu, on X on Saturday.

The NCAA is an authority that regulates the entire aviation industry with the exception of agents which has been existing as an association but prominently confronted by the activities of quacks swindling unsuspecting Nigerians.

Achimugu, in his social post, described the call by the agents; members of the downstream sector in the aviation industry as a forward-thinking proof that will not only protect the integrity of the agents before the flying public but will also be a landmark achievement that will curb quackery in the ecosystem.

The post reads partly, “The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies has asked to be regulated by the NCAA. To this end, we will commence engagements towards bringing the agency under the regulatory oversight of the Authority.

“I find it noteworthy that the body of travel agents have asked for this by themselves via their very forward-thinking president, the gentleman Yinka Folami.

“The NCAA regulates FAAN, NAMA, NiMET, NCAT, airlines, and all other aviation stakeholders.

“It will be a landmark achievement to have NANTA join the fold, and we believe that 2025 will herald bright successes for the aviation industry under the leadership of @fkeyamo as Minister and Capt. Chris Najomo as DG NCAA.”

When contacted to confirm the development, NANTA President Yinka Folami, confirmed the move, saying it will lead to better service delivery by agents in the industry.

The president said although, professional agents under the umbrella of NANTA are registered with the NCAA, but added that the new regulation move will end the activities of quacks and better the lots of passengers and the industry at large.

He added “The call is true and it is to make things better for us all. In a way, this regulation will also address flight delays, cancellations, and the menace of quacks giving us a bad name in the industry.

“I am sure you know our members are not quacks, but this new regulation will squarely help end quackeries in the industry.”
