NPC partners FCTA, NASRDA, others to host GIS day in Abuja
The National Population Commission (NPC) has collaborated with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Jamitan Tech Nig. Ltd, the Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri), and other critical Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Organizations and Societies, including the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF) to host a GIS Day Event on the 14th and 15th of November 2023 in Abuja.
The two-day event, scheduled to start 14th November 2023, has been themed “GIS for Executives” for the Day 1, as it will be graced by dignitaries to discuss the application of GIS in their Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
There will be presentations from experts in the field like Dr Isa I. Jalo, former Director of AGIS, and Panel Discussions with dignitaries like the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Surv. Adebomehin Adeyemi and the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC),
Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra.
The second day will primarily focus on the users of GIS –in line with this year’s theme of Celebrating the GIS Professional. GIS Departments, Organizations, and Societies like the Young Surveyors Network (YSN) display their works in GIS, old hands in GIS like OSGOF, Esri, Khatib & Alami (K&A), and Mr Glen Stewart of the NYPD will present intriguing Demonstrations, and finally participants will partake in the Story Maps Competition of the day.
NPC, OSGoF, FCTA, and NASRDA have all successfully deployed GIS projects and envision the celebration of GIS Day on a grand scale which is why they are also collaborating with private sector partners Jamitan Tech and Esri. The Event is set to bring together GIS professionals, students, and enthusiasts from all sectors to exhibit their GIS projects and how GIS is used to solve real-world problems.
