Ogiamẹ Atuwatse III Receives Peace Artifact
Dignitaries from across Africa and beyond gathered in the Asante Region of Ghana as celebrations marking the 27th coronation anniversary of Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II came to an end on April 26. The event spotlighted the enduring influence of traditional institutions in preserving heritage and fostering unity across the continent.
A defining moment of the ceremony was the exchange of royal goodwill between Ghana and Nigeria, as Ogiamẹ Atuwatse III received a symbolic peace artifact from the Asantehene. The presentation highlighted deepening ties between both monarchs and reaffirmed the relevance of ancient kingdoms in strengthening cultural diplomacy.
Speaking during the anniversary, Otumfuo reiterated that monarchy plays a supportive role in governance, working alongside state institutions to promote peace and stability. He noted that effective leadership, adherence to the rule of law, and economic strength remain critical foundations for lasting peace.
The celebrations wrapped up with a gala night at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, where commemorative gold coins were unveiled and notable Asante citizens honoured. High-profile attendees included former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, and Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, among other government officials, traditional leaders, and business figures.
