… with platforms such as Gov CMS for workflow management, Gov Email for official correspondence.

The Ministry of Police Affairs has begun a transition from manual paperwork to a digital work environment through the deployment of an Enterprise Content Management platform.

The ECM platform is designed to replace traditional paper-based processes with a secure digital system aimed at improving governance, transparency, and operational efficiency within the ministry.

The platform includes tools such as Gov CMS for workflow management, Gov Email for official correspondence, Gov Conference for virtual meetings, and Gov Drive for file storage.

The initiative aligns with the vision of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, to digitise the entire federal civil service by December 31, 2025.

Speaking at the launch on Sunday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr Ogbonnaya Nlia, described the ECM as a key step in the ministry’s digital transformation efforts.

He said the platform would promote accountability, transparency, institutional memory, and operational efficiency.

“This is not merely the introduction of technological tools but the beginning of a new culture, one engineered by accountability, transparency, institutional memory, and operational excellence,” he said.

Nlia noted that the ECM would help manage official records, track workflow processes, safeguard sensitive documents, and improve service delivery across departments.

He urged the staff of the ministry to embrace the system and assured them of continued training and user support to ensure effective utilisation.

“The world we live in is driven by information technology and speed. Technology only delivers its full value when fully utilised,” he added.

Also speaking, the Group Head of Research and Digital Development at Galaxy Backbone, Mr Akintayo Bamidele, said the deployment marked a significant change in how government operations and public service delivery are conducted.

He noted that the ECM deployment is ongoing across federal ministries, with efforts underway to ensure a smooth transition to fully digitised work processes.

The Nigerian civil service has historically relied on paper-based processes for record-keeping, communication, and workflow management, which often results in delays, inefficiencies, and limited transparency.

Over the years, successive administrations have emphasised the need to modernise government operations through digitisation to improve accountability, service delivery, and institutional memory.

The Federal Government, under the leadership of the HOS, Walson-Jack, set a target for full digital transformation across all federal ministries by December 31, 2025.

This initiative aims to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks, enhance data security, and provide a seamless interface for internal and external stakeholders.
