Sanwo-Olu donates house, vehicles and ₦100m to Lagos military veterans

This Remembrance Day serves the purpose of honouring both fallen and living heroes.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a ₦100 million donation, two utility vehicles and four housing units to the Lagos Chapter of the Nigerian Legion as activities for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day begin.
The governor made the disclosure on Monday via a post on X after receiving members of the Nigerian Legion at the State Executive Council meeting, marking the official kick-off of the Remembrance Day activities in the state.
Sanwo-Olu said the donation was part of efforts to demonstrate Lagos State’s appreciation for the sacrifices of military veterans and fallen heroes.
“I want our veterans to know that Lagos State truly values their service.
“To show our appreciation, I have committed ₦100 million and two utility vehicles to help the Legion with its operations,” the governor stated.
He added that the state government would also provide “four 2-bedroom apartments, along with food and other supplies to support their members.”
According to Sanwo-Olu, Nigeria’s continued sovereignty is tied to the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces, stressing that remembrance should go beyond symbolism.
“Our sovereignty as a nation exists because of these brave men and women. The Emblem Appeal is a responsibility we owe to those who laid down their lives for Nigeria and to those who returned with life-changing injuries,” he said.
He further noted that the Remembrance Day activities offer an opportunity for governments and citizens to honour both fallen and living heroes in practical ways.
“We must remember them in real and tangible ways. This is our way of saying thank you for the sacrifices that allow all of us to live in a free and united country,” Sanwo-Olu added.
The donation by Lagos comes amid similar gestures by state governments across the country as preparations for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day gather momentum.
Recently, the Ondo State Government launched its Emblem Appeal Fund with a ₦5 million donation to support military veterans, widows and dependants of fallen heroes.
