The Lagos State Government has initiated the removal of illegal structures within the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ) following the expiration of compliance deadlines issued to developers and property owners. The enforcement exercise, led by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, is aimed at clearing road corridors and dismantling unapproved buildings that officials say have obstructed infrastructure development and violated environmental standards in the high-value economic cluster.

The operation entered its fourth day with task force crews actively clearing environmental infractions along the axis. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the progress of the exercise, stating, “Day four of our ongoing enforcement activities at the Lekki Free Trade Zone went smoothly. Our team continued the removal of illegal structures and the clearing of environmental infractions that have affected the road corridors in that axis.”

The Ministry noted that the enforcement forms part of a broader urban regeneration campaign across the state, emphasizing that full adherence to planning laws and approved layouts is non-negotiable. Government officials reiterated that the exercise will persist until all affected locations within the zone achieve full compliance with statutory building regulations. Residents and stakeholders have been urged to cooperate with authorities to ensure the orderly development of the strategic corridor.
