President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched a nationwide climate lifestyle tour aimed at promoting green investments, environmental responsibility and community resilience across Nigeria’s urban centres. The initiative, announced by the Federal Government, is designed to encourage sustainable living practices while mobilising public and private sector participation in climate-focused development projects.
Officials said the tour will involve engagements with state governments, business leaders, environmental groups and community stakeholders across the country, with a focus on advancing climate-friendly policies and investment opportunities. According to the presidency, the initiative is intended to deepen awareness about environmental sustainability while supporting Nigeria’s transition toward a greener and more resilient economy.
The programme is being coordinated with the involvement of the Federal Government of Nigeria and key agencies responsible for climate policy and environmental protection. Authorities explained that the climate lifestyle tour will include town hall meetings, policy dialogues and project inspections designed to highlight practical solutions for reducing environmental impact while strengthening economic growth.
Speaking during the launch, President Tinubu emphasised the importance of integrating environmental sustainability into national development planning. “Nigeria must take deliberate steps to protect its environment while also unlocking new economic opportunities in the green sector,” he said. “This climate lifestyle tour is about encouraging communities, businesses and institutions to adopt practices that promote sustainability and resilience.”
Government officials noted that the initiative reflects growing recognition of climate challenges affecting urban areas, including rising temperatures, flooding and environmental degradation. They added that the tour will serve as a platform to promote renewable energy adoption, improved waste management systems and climate-resilient infrastructure in major cities such as Lagos and Abuja.
Environmental policy experts participating in the programme stressed that stronger collaboration between government and the private sector will be critical in driving meaningful progress. One official involved in the initiative said, “Sustainability is no longer optional. Communities and businesses must work together to build systems that can withstand climate shocks while supporting economic growth.”
The presidency also indicated that the tour will highlight investment opportunities in sectors such as renewable energy, green transportation and climate-smart agriculture. By drawing attention to these areas, officials hope to attract both domestic and international investors interested in supporting Nigeria’s environmental transition.
Authorities further noted that the climate lifestyle tour aligns with Nigeria’s commitments under international climate agreements and reflects the government’s intention to embed sustainability into everyday economic and social activities. They added that continued public engagement and awareness will play a key role in ensuring that climate-conscious practices become part of daily life in cities and communities across the country.
