Nigerian fashion label Sevon Dejana has achieved a significant international milestone following a red-carpet appearance by Love Island star Olandria Carthen at the Golden Eve celebration in Beverly Hills on January 6, 2026. Carthen attended the gala, which honored icons Helen Mirren and Sarah Jessica Parker, wearing a semi-sheer, heavily-embroidered gown titled Reincarnation from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection. The look, orchestrated by celebrity styling duo Matthew and Reginald Reisman, featured a structured, straight-across square-neck bodice crafted from black velvet, serving as a base for intricate floral beadwork and celestial gemstones.
The Reincarnation design explores themes of renewal through textural layering and crystal embellishments, and was specifically adapted by the Lagos-based fashion house to frame the star’s silhouette and highlight her collarbone tattoo. The ensemble transitioned from an opaque bustier into a sheer, black tulle base adorned with earth-toned sequins and botanical motifs. A prominent feature of the garment was a drop-waist, olive-green satin train centered by a 3D pink rosette, which stylists have characterized as a “masterclass in modern African couture.”
Founded by Segun Aladejana, Sevon Dejana’s presence at the Beverly Hilton event has sparked extensive discussion among fashion critics and industry leaders. While some social media responses were polarized regarding the bold styling choices, such as the contrasting sash and exaggerated 3D detailing, the consensus among experts highlighted the risk-taking and sheer presence of the piece. The brand’s trajectory from Lagos Fashion Week to the global awards-season stage is being cited as evidence that African fashion can be traditional, experimental, and avant-garde simultaneously.
