Folorunso Alakija’s Flourish Africa grant for female entrepreneurs: Giving back to the society after benefitting

…philanthropic effort was largely supported by generous donations.

In a remarkable display of gratitude and social responsibility, Ngozi Obasa, founder of the Initiative for Women Affairs Development and Ntanta Delicacies, has given back to the society after benefiting from the ongoing Flourish Africa’s grant program for female entrepreneurs.

Chef Ngozi, a seasoned food culture specialist, was among the selected beneficiaries of the Folorunso Alakija’s Flourish Africa Grant for Female Entrepreneurs, which included a 3-month intensive training program. With her newfound skills and knowledge, she has not only acquired more capacity to advance her business but also made a positive impact in the lives of over 100 women in the Jahi, Dutse Alhaji and Makaranta communities of Abuja, who are grappling with Nigeria’s current harsh economic realities.

This philanthropic effort was largely supported by generous donations from her friends and family, reinforcing their commitment to community support.

During a recent food items distribution effort, Ngozi shared her personal story of motivation and empowerment courtesy of Flourish Africa with newsmen in Abuja. She encouraged the beneficiaries to hold onto hope despite the current high cost of living, citing her own experience as a proof to the power of women empowerment programs.

“My journey to empowering women started with the creation of The Initiative for Women Affairs Development IWAD International, a non-profit organization founded on my vision of a world where every woman thrives and contributes to society’s betterment,” Ngozi said. “But it was my experience with Flourish Africa that took my passion to the next level, further propelling me to lead efforts in empowering women and making a meaningful impact in their lives.”

“I needed support to empower my business, Ntanta Delicacies, so I applied for and was selected as a beneficiary of the 2024 Flourish Africa Grant for Female Entrepreneurs,” Ngozi continued. “Flourish Africa has been a turning point in my life and business. The program has equipped me with advanced business strategies, financial management skills, and a clear roadmap for Ntanta Delicacies’ growth. This means I’ll now be able to create more jobs and opportunities for women in Abuja, which is a dream come true.”

“This program has been nothing short of transformative,” Ngozi emphasized. “It has enabled me to test and validate my business idea, ensuring they align with market needs. The coaching has enhanced the my leadership skills, empowering me to steer my business to new heights.”

As the final selection for the grant approaches, Ngozi, preparing to submit her business plan, has reaffirmed her dedication to inspiring and uplifting others through her platform. Her address in Jahi transcended a mere food items distribution; it conveyed a powerful message of hope, showcasing the impact of women empowerment programs in Nigeria. Seizing the opportunity, Ngozi appealed to local and international organizations in Nigeria to intensify their support for women, stressing the urgent need for action amidst the country’s economic challenges. Furthermore, she urged the Tinubu-led federal government to bolster support for organizations working tirelessly to alleviate the sufferings of women.
