Germany’s President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is scheduled to begin a pivotal three-day official visit to Nigeria today, with his stay lasting until December 12, 2024. The German Embassy in Abuja made the announcement on Monday, outlining key events and engagements during the visit.

Steinmeier’s visit will start in Abuja, where he will hold high-level talks with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Dr. Alieu Touray. These meetings are expected to deepen bilateral relations and foster collaboration between Germany and Nigeria.

The President will then travel to Lagos, where he plans to meet influential business leaders and explore opportunities for increased German investment in Nigeria. Steinmeier’s schedule also includes a visit to a start-up hub and meetings with prominent cultural and civil society figures such as renowned artist Dr. Nike Okundaye, famously known as Mama Nike, and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka.

During his visit, President Steinmeier will tour Lagos, providing an insightful look into the city’s urban challenges and growth prospects. He will be accompanied by a delegation of top German business executives from key sectors such as IT, high-tech, and energy, underscoring Germany’s keen interest in strengthening economic ties with Nigeria.

The German Embassy statement emphasized that this visit marks an important moment for both nations, as they seek to expand their economic, cultural, and political partnerships in an increasingly interconnected world.
