Megastarmagazine reports that the involvement of smart technology has improved safety in Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has disclosed that the incorporation of smart technologies such as drones, TMC cameras, and GPS-enabled patrol vehicles has helped to drive safety on roads across the state.

The LASTMA Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to Taofiq, the technological integration has helped the agency to accelerate intervention and rescue efforts during emergencies, leading to the preservation of lives during road accidents.

Quoting the agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, Taofiq stated that there had been operational limitations before the deployment of these technologies.

He continued, “With these advanced monitoring capabilities, traffic incidents are now detected instantaneously, verified via digital feeds, and communicated promptly to the nearest patrol or rescue unit.

“This streamlined operational synergy has drastically reduced response intervals while optimising field deployment strategies. Our commitment to technological modernisation is anchored on the imperative to safeguard human life.

“Every minute saved in emergency response is invaluable. The deployment of intelligent systems has empowered our operatives to respond with unprecedented speed, precision, and professional dexterity.”

He added that the government’s investment in modern digital infrastructure aligns with a broader vision of cultivating a smart, resilient, and globally competitive megacity.

He described the modernisation initiative as a testament to the administration’s unwavering commitment to institutional strengthening, public safety, and infrastructural excellence.

“As we consolidate these achievements, our resolve remains unwavering. We shall continue to invest in technological innovation, capacity development, and inter-agency collaboration to ensure Lagos roads remain safer, more orderly, and optimally responsive to emergencies,” Bakare-Oki said.

The statement concluded with the assurance that LASTMA would continue to ensure the safety of road users while seeking the support of members of the public.
