Kebbi donates N30m to widows of deceased military personnel
Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has donated ₦30 million to widows of fallen military personnel who lost their lives in active service.
Idris also donated ₦10 million to corps members and orphans of the 1 Battalion, Dukku Barracks, ₦15 million to officers and men of the 1 Battalion, and ₦15 million to the 223 Light Tank Battalion, Zuru Barracks.
He announced the donations on Wednesday at the parade ground during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day commemoration, held at Haliru Audu Stadium, Birnin Kebbi.
The governor described the celebration as a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the Nigerian Legion, who dedicated their lives to serving the nation and ensuring citizens’ freedom to live in peace.
“As we gather here today, we pay tribute to the gallant soldiers who have fought bravely in defence of our sovereignty and the peace we enjoy today. Their courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to duty are qualities that inspire us all,” Idris said.
He further described the event as an opportunity to reflect on the values of sacrifice, service, and dedication exemplified by the armed forces.

“We remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives so that we may live in safety and security. To the families of these heroes, we extend our deepest condolences and gratitude. Rest assured, your loss is our loss, and we stand by you in solidarity,” he assured.
The governor emphasised that it is the duty of all citizens to support the armed forces and advocate for their welfare, while also ensuring they receive the respect and care they deserve.
“In Kebbi State, we are committed to fostering a strong relationship with our military and security agencies. We recognise the vital role they play in maintaining peace and security in our communities.
“Today, as we lay a wreath and observe a moment of silence, let us renew our commitment to uphold the values for which our armed forces stand.
“Let us work together to build a society that honours their sacrifices through our actions, by promoting peace, tolerance, and understanding among all citizens,” he advised.
