Makinde steps aside, hands over power to deputy

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will be going on leave for one month, starting from Friday, August 29, 2025.
According to a letter read on the floor of the House of Assembly by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin on Tuesday, Makinde notified lawmakers in line with Section 190(1) of the Constitution and handed over full powers to his deputy, Barrister Bayo Lawal, who will serve as Acting Governor throughout the period.
“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, 29th September 2025,” part of the governor’s letter read.
The House acknowledged the notice and pledged its support for a seamless transition in Makinde’s absence.
With this, Barr. Lawal takes charge of Oyo affairs from August 29 until the governor’s return on September 29.
