    Manny Ita –

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Police Academy campus in Erinja, Ogun State, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture and improve the quality of policing nationwide. The project, backed by an initial take-off grant of ₦15 billion, is aimed at expanding training capacity for police personnel while modernizing law enforcement education in line with global standards. The new campus is expected to complement existing institutions by providing advanced facilities, improved curriculum delivery, and increased enrollment opportunities for recruits. According to government sources, the initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhancing internal security through better-trained officers, improved infrastructure, and institutional reforms. The academy will focus not only on traditional policing methods but also on emerging areas such as cybercrime, intelligence gathering, and community policing. The choice of Erinja in Ogun State is seen as strategic, offering adequate space for expansion and accessibility within the Southwest region. Once completed, the campus is projected to create jobs, boost local economic activity, and contribute to regional development. Security analysts have welcomed the move, noting that investment in training institutions is critical to addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges. However, they also stress that sustained funding, transparency, and proper oversight will be key to ensuring the long-term success of the project.
