Tension and public outrage have intensified across Nigeria following reports that the insurgent group Boko Haram has issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding a ransom of ₦5 billion for the release of more than 400 women and children abducted in Borno State.
According to local sources and security analysts, the victims were taken during coordinated attacks on vulnerable communities in northern Borno, an area that has long faced repeated assaults from insurgent groups. The scale of the abduction has raised fresh concerns about the safety of rural populations and the effectiveness of ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
