    Super Eagles of Nigeria

For Nigeria, the game represents one of their most significant tests since missing out on World Cup qualification.

Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, is set to lead a star-studded Seleção das Quinas side against Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Leiria on Wednesday, in what will serve as their final warm-up match ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

The encounter, scheduled at the Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, is being treated as more than a routine friendly, with both teams using it as a serious tactical test ahead of major international commitments.

Portugal coach Roberto Martínez has named a near full-strength squad, blending experience and youth, as he fine-tunes his team’s balance before the tournament begins.

Alongside Ronaldo, the squad includes key figures such as Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias, João Neves, João Félix, and Rafael Leão, reflecting Portugal’s intent to enter the World Cup in strong form.

Martínez is expected to use the match to assess combinations across midfield and attack, while also reinforcing defensive structure against a physically strong Nigerian side.

For Nigeria, the game represents one of their most significant tests since missing out on World Cup qualification.

Head coach Éric Chelle has emphasized competitiveness and squad cohesion as his side continues rebuilding momentum on the international stage.

The Super Eagles will also mark a major individual milestone during the fixture, as midfielder Alex Iwobi is set to earn his 100th senior international cap.

The achievement places him among a select group of Nigerian players to reach the landmark, underlining his longevity and importance to the national team.

Nigeria are expected to rely on a mix of experience and attacking depth, with players such as Wilfred Ndidi providing stability in midfield, while creative outlets like Samuel Chukwueze and Moses Simon offer width and pace.

Despite the friendly label, both sides are approaching the fixture with competitive intent. Portugal are looking to maintain momentum ahead of the World Cup, while Nigeria are aiming to test themselves against one of Europe’s elite teams and measure their progress under Chelle.

Historically, Portugal have had the upper hand in this matchup, including a 4–0 win in a 2022 friendly in Lisbon. However, Nigeria’s current squad structure and tactical evolution suggest a more balanced contest is expected this time.

Kick-off is scheduled for 8:45pm local time, the same time as in Nigeria, with global attention on Ronaldo’s final preparations and Nigeria’s bid to make a strong statement despite their absence from the World Cup stage.
