Super Falcons Reach WAFCON Quarter-finals After Defeating Egypt 6-2
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have taken their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a convincing 6-2 victory over Egypt in their final Group C match on Wednesday.
The Super Falcons entered the game needing to win by at least a three-goal margin to stand a chance of progressing in a three-way battle involving Nigeria, Zambia and Malawi.
The win saw Nigeria finish on six points, level with Zambia and Malawi, but advance alongside Malawi on goal difference.
Asisat Oshoala, Gift Monday and Rasheedat Ajibade were among the scorers for the ten-time African champions, while Nigeria also converted three penalties in a dominant attacking display.
The emphatic victory completed Nigeria’s recovery after an opening defeat to Malawi and kept alive the Falcon’s quest for a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.
In the next round, Nigeria will have to face Cameroon.
