Nigeria is set to play a leading role in a month-long international cultural festival in Ontario, with organisers confirming that the country will anchor both the fashion and world music segments of the programme. The festival has been structured into dedicated thematic weeks, positioning Nigerian creatives at the centre of key global showcases.
The event will officially open on June 1 with the “Journey Through Africa” immersive cultural experience, alongside the premiere of the AFROVISION X Anthem, marking the formal start of activities and setting the tone for a continent-wide creative celebration.
Fashion activities will run from June 3 to June 7, featuring a high-profile showcase of African designers. Organisers disclosed that selections for the fashion segment are currently underway, with previews taking place in Lagos as part of the curation process.
From June 9 to June 14, the focus will shift to film, with a festival segment spotlighting Nollywood alongside Caribbean cinema, highlighting cross-cultural storytelling and shared diasporic narratives.
The programme will continue from June 16 to June 20 with arts and theatre presentations, bringing together visual arts exhibitions and performing arts showcases from across participating regions.
World Music Week is scheduled for June 21 to June 27, with performances by leading Afrobeats and Caribbean stars, reinforcing Nigeria’s influence in shaping contemporary global music culture.
The festival will conclude on June 30 with an Awards Gala, described by organisers as the grand finale, recognising excellence across all creative disciplines featured throughout the month-long celebration.
