    NAWOJ Lagos Commemorates International Women’s Day 2026, As Mentorship Tops Agenda

    The world celebrates International Women’s Day 2026, this year with the theme “Give to Gain”, and the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Lagos State Chapter, is emphasizing the importance of investing in women journalists to accelerate progress in the media space and strengthening The voice of women in Nigeria.

    The “Give to Gain” theme resonates with the mission of NAWOJ to promote the rights and welfare of women journalists, by giving access to mentorship, advocacy, and capacity-building opportunities.

    This year, the Association’s Lagos Chapter will celebrate the day with a commemoration lecture and Panel discussion on the theme, “Give to Gain: Empowering Women Journalists through Mentorship and Advocacy for a Stronger Voice and Enhanced Welfare”, at the NUJ Secretariat in Iyalla, Alausa Lagos.

    Chairperson of NAWOJ, Lagos Chapter, Jumoke Johnson announced that the event is a gift from the heart to all female journalists in Lagos, and all women State-wide, as the day would feature a guest Speaker and panelists who would give of their experiences and knowledge in journalism, to fuel better practices amongst women in the Association.

    This event will enable women journalists contribute effectively to the development of the media sector and the society at large, Johnson said.

    The guest speaker, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, is Executive Director, Media Career Development Network, who will share his great expertise on career development and mentorship in the media industry. This will be followed by a panel discussion on strategies to enhance the capacity and welfare of women journalists, featuring experienced and award-winning media professionals, Olufunke Fayemi of Voice Of Nigeria, Lagos and Blessing Oladunjoye of BONews.

    The event will give women journalists the opportunity to gain better insight, share experiences and access mentorship opportunities. Johnson said this will provide a focused and cohesive practice that would ultimately strengthen the voice of women journalists in Lagos.

    It will also serve as a stakeholders engagement forum towards restrategizing effectively on better welfare for women journalists in Lagos State.

    Secretary of NAWOJ Lagos, Anu M. Thomas added that the commemoration lecture is billed for Wednesday, 11th March, 2026, 11:00am, at the NUJ Secretariat Iyalla, Ikeja, Lagos.

    All stakeholders, women groups, lawmakers, government officials, media organizations and members of the informal sector which is largely constituted by women are all invited, to celebrate the day with NAWOJ Lagos, she said.
