Oyo @50: Govt announces early office closure on Tuesday to celebrate

The climax of events will be on February 3 with a gala and award night at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan.
The Oyo State Government has approved the early closure of offices across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to allow public officers to participate in the grand finale of activities marking the state’s 50th anniversary.
The directive was conveyed in a statement on Monday, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Adetunji Babatunde and posted via the government’s X handle.
According to the statement, “all state government offices are to close by 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
“The approval was granted by the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, as part of preparations for the golden jubilee celebration tagged OyoStateAt50.
“Heads of MDAs have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive, while also making adequate arrangements for skeletal services in critical areas where necessary.”
Babatunde urged that the information be widely disseminated to ensure awareness and adherence across the state.
The move comes as Oyo State wraps up a week-long series of activities marking 50 years since its creation on February 3, 1976, from the former Western State.
Themed “Consolidating the Legacy, Navigating the Present, and Reimagining the Future,” the celebrations kicked off on January 26 with an opening ceremony at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, featuring a public lecture by Governor Makinde and the cutting of a symbolic 50th anniversary cake.
