FG vows to improve power infrastructure
The management of the Nigerian Independent System Operator, a newly created structure by the Federal Government through National Electricity Regulatory Commission, has promised to improve power infrastructure to make energy available for Nigerians.
This was disclosed in Osogbo on Thursday by the Managing Director of the NISO, Mr. Mohammed Bello, while addressing staff of the organisation at a technical tour of the National Control Center, Osogbo, Osun State.
Bello said the organisation would also work towards modernizing systems of operations and strengthening internal communication.
The NISO boss said the organisation’s creation was not accidental, but came to being after many years of power sector reforms, backed by strong regulatory guidance and driven by the need to deliver better services to Nigerians.
He also said within its first 100 days, NISO will work with staff and other stakeholders to identify and develop mitigation strategies to address critical gaps that affect system reliability and operator performance.
“As many of you know, we have now transitioned to a new structure with the establishment of the Nigeria Independent System Operator, NISO. This development is not accidental. It is the outcome of years of power sector reforms, backed by strong regulatory guidance and driven by the need to deliver better services to Nigerians,” Bello said.
While emphasising the need to earn the trust of Nigerians through excellent services, Bello encouraged the staff of the organisation to be faithful to the values that define public service.
He added, “We must never forget that this sector cannot work if the market does not trust the system operator. And that trust is built NOT demanded. We earn it every day through every dispatch instruction, every system report, every frequency balance, and every single Mega Watt that passes through the national grid.
“I encourage you, as I encourage myself, to be faithful to the values that define public service. Let us be diligent. Let us be honest. Let us hold ourselves accountable. We may not solve all the challenges overnight, but if we stay true to the task, we will move this country forward.
“Let me also assure you that NISO is committed to supporting you not just to do your jobs, but to excel in them. We will work together to address the gaps. We will improve our infrastructure, modernize our systems, and strengthen our internal communication. We are building an institution that will last and your role in that process is very critical.”
