Fuel Subsidy Palliative: Kwara Government Reduces Workdays To Three Days In A Week
The Kwara State Government has approved a temporary palliative measure to bring some ease to workers following the removal of petrol subsidy by the Federal Government.
The State Head of Service, Mrs Susan Modupe Oluwole announced today that the State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has directed that the workdays be reduced from five days to three days per week for every worker.
Mrs Oluwole directed all Heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State to immediately work out a format indicating the alternating work days for each worker under them.
The Head of Service however, warned the workers not to abuse the magnanimity of the Governor, stressing that the regular monitoring of MDAs by her office would be intensified to ensure strict compliance.
Apple’s Bite had reported that in a bid to compel the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to reverse the increase in the pump price of the petrol, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) had directed its members and affiliates to begin nationwide protest and withdrawal of services from Wednesday (tomorrow).
Arising from its three-hour National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, theNLC said that workers are also demanding comprehensive probe of the entire fuel subsidy regime to unravel the fraudulent activities that have taken place over the years.
Addressing journalists after the NEC meeting, NLC President Joe Ajaero said the Congress has resolved to mobilize workers nationwide on a protest by Wednesday if the federal government fails to compel NNPCL withdraw the N540 per litre illegal fuel price template.
